Kitchen 139 (21.06.2023)

When designing kitchens, I start by understanding your preferences and the unique features of your space—plumbing, ventilation, windows, and doors. I then blend these with the principles of exceptional kitchen design, applying my practical expertise and creative vision to craft a kitchen that is both beautiful and highly functional.

What makes this kitchen special

The homeowner’s biggest wish for this kitchen was to gain more countertop space. Initially, the layout had a large double-door refrigerator to the right of the window and a dining table in the middle of the kitchen. While having a dining table in the center is certainly convenient, I completely redesigned the kitchen layout, which led to a significant transformation.

When planning the new layout, I had to consider that the window needed to open fully, as it serves as a pass-through for food and dishes to the terrace behind it. Additionally, the wide terrace door on the right had to be taken into account.

The first step was relocating the refrigerator, which freed up a large section of wall space next to the window. Since the room allowed for it, I extended the kitchen layout all the way to the terrace door. And just like that—plenty of extra countertop space appeared!

However, positioning the stove, oven, and sink was a real challenge due to the window and the corners. (I always aim to use corners as efficiently as possible!) But after careful planning, I found the best solution.

You’ll notice in the pictures that I designed a small, uniquely shaped kitchen island. I also presented the client with an alternative layout featuring a long dining table instead of the island, as well as an option with an oval dining table.

The shape of the island and the placement of the dining tables were key considerations for movement flow. In summer, easy access from the refrigerator to the terrace door is crucial. If someone has to maneuver around a bulky, sharp-edged dining table every time they go outside, it could quickly become frustrating. That’s why I always think ahead to prevent these kinds of issues before they arise!
